Abundance Foundation: Winter Pecha Kucha

Doors open at 6 p.m. Presentations begin at 6:30 p.m. Pecha Kucha is a quarterly storytelling event that brings people together to present and discuss new ideas. Each season, several people from the community give presentations that challenge people to think differently about the environment, culture and each other. Presenters each have 20 slides and 20 seconds per slide to discuss. Slides are automatically timed to be exactly 20 seconds with the total time for each presenter is 6 minutes and 40 seconds. This keeps the pace fun & exciting. WINTER 2015 PRESENTERS LINE UP IS HERE! This winter event coincides with our Stephen Jenkinson Griefwalker Screening and Die Wise Workshop – many of our presenters will be speaking on the topics of spirituality, death, healing, dying, transformation, metamorphosis, grief and praise of Life in both our individual lives and broader cultural and societal contexts.

Miracle on Hillsboro Street: 2 pm & 6 pm

See the trial of the century on Saturday, December 17th at the historic Chatham County Courthouse, where Santa Claus is on trial. Enjoy audience participation, local actors and the real Kris Kringle! Come root for a Miracle on Hillsboro Street! Performances will be at 2pm & 6pm. Joyful Jewel: Anniversary Weekend!

More special events TBA October 11, 2-3:30 p.m.: Patty Cole readers from her new poetry book A Way I Sing at the Joyful Jewel.  Patty Cole grew up in West Virginia on the Ohio River and now calls North Carolina her home for the last 20 years. She’s now a hobby farmer and raises chickens and goats with her husband, Hoyt. She was introduced to poetry in college where she studied English and French at West Virginia State University. Cole is widely published in journals and anthologies. To her credit are awards from the Fields of Earth Poetry Contest and the North Carolina Poetry Society. Of her book, Cole says it has been a journey of discovery and understanding. She hopes you will enjoy reading these poems as much as she enjoyed writing.

Chatham EDC: Opportunity Chatham

Chatham Economic Development Corporation invites you to its annual Opportunity Chatham breakfast meeting presented by Triangle Community Foundation and, new this year, the Chatham Catalyst Award reception. On Thursday, October 15, the Chatham Catalyst reception will honor three families who have made significant contributions in Chatham County. The reception will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Garden Terrace at Fearrington Village. Tickets include passed hor d’ooeuvres and beer and wine. The Opportunity Chatham breakfast meeting is Friday, October 16 from 7:30 to 10 a.m. at the Barn at Fearrington. Chris Chung, CEO of the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, will be this year’s keynote speaker. Chung will discuss his efforts leading the state’s new privatized economic development group.
